2021: A better separation between cgartist.com and studio.cgartist.com
Starting in January 2021, a new Facebook page will establish a clearer line between studio.cgartist.com, the services site (CG & XR design), opposed to the base URL cgartist.com, that is intended as a CG artist community and marketplace, as both site IDs have different goals.
Cgartist.com’s traffic has grown considerably over the last 5 years and I have a constantly growing inflow of new users signing up. That is due to the fact that “cgartist” is a popular search term on Google, mostly by people that want to learn how to become a CG artist, or trying to find services provided by CG artists. Cgartist.com is in the first position of all google search results for the term, that is the benefit of a generic name URL for a specialized field of interest.
On the other hand, I have to reject 99.9 percent of applicants for a seller account (while the buyer account is open to anyone). The reason is, most people don’t read the requirements and don’t provide portfolio links and/or proficient contact info. The other reason is that a lot of applicants don’t fit the situation the site was intended for: Small gigs, quick jobs for game assets and CG services that can be packaged in small chunks. For example, I do get a lot of applications from the middle east, very often highly qualified architectural designers with impressive portfolios of major construction jobs. These are high-end professionals, but their expertise and portfolio doesn’t really fit into the mole of CG micro jobs.
The result is: An increasing, but passive user base, with not much of transaction activity, besides the early community of providers that I know personally, and that have their own steady CG gigs from a stable client base.
That means, I will take steps to relaunch cgartist.com at some point in 2021, when time allows it, with an improved or new concept. If you are a CG professional who wants to get involved, or if you are an investor who wants to be part of the fastest growing creative industry, drop me a note. Stay tuned and remember:
cgartist.com = CG artist community
studio.cgartist.com = CG & XR design services by C. Hillmann.
