Design thinking: UX for AR and VR research.
I am doing a number of research projects, as part of the REALITY UX Toolkit initiative under the joint venture St8ry.com (coming soon). The initiative is the result of my upcoming book “UX for XR” on user experience design for AR and VR from a design thinking perspective.
The book not only reflects my own experience, but also the numerous interesting cases studies, user stories and guidelines that have been contributed in discussions, interviews and workshops with clients and colleagues in the design community.
As we are in an almost unprecedented paradigm shift towards the virtual workspace and moving into the era of immersive entertainment, accelerated by a devastating worldwide pandemic that had us rethink a lot of fundamental ideas on how human will interact with information in the near future, it is also a huge opportunity to consider the positive change that this could have on making civil society more transparent and accessible, as we move into the next major transformation of the digital age.
In this endeavour, I am joined by UX lead Tino Kuhn (tinokuhn.com) as a technical reviewer in Melbourne, who goes well out of his way to contribute his extensive experience in a very generous manner. I have known Tino for a long time and have always admired the consistently high quality of his design work and his pioneering spirit as a digital creative and UX lead in the forefront of guiding and navigating major brands through the digital realms. We hope to extend this fruitful cooperation into additional branches, such as specialized workshops and follow-up projects, once the title is wrapped up in 2021.
During the ongoing production of the project, we are actively evaluating and discussing related topics with producers, solution providers and industry visionaries. The goal is to bring the best ideas and concepts together and make them accessible to others who are starting out, expanding their scope of expertise, or are planning to build cutting edge digital products in the growing XR field.
Please join us when we discuss prototyping, frameworks, principles and heuristics.
We are planning to organize VR meetups with like minded designers in the field and are lining up review sessions to document part of the journey on YouTube. Please keep an on this page, as we will update it once the events are scheduled.
